You can learn to draw like the Masters.
Don't believe the myth, "Artistic ability is a natural talent,a person must be born with, either you have it or you don't."
My name is Lyn Norton. As an artist and a teacher for many years I have taught both the 'talented' as well as those who have readily would admit, "I can't draw a straight line", but had a desire to learn to draw. It is my belief that drawing is a skill that anyone who has the desire and the time to invest can learn. It is not an ability that is reserved only for those who are born with "natural talent".
Do you think that reading is reserved for the "talented" people? Of course not! Reading is a learned skill. Drawing is also a learned skill. A few people have learned how to read without instruction, but most of us would never figure out how to read without a teacher. That is also true of drawing, you can learn to draw, just like you have learned many other skills in your life.
I'm not saying that talent doesn't exist or doesn't matter. I am just saying that drawing is not exclusively for the talented, but rather it is a skill that can be learned by anyone who has the desire to learn it. Experience has repeatedly shown me that it is the desire to draw that creates an artist rather than 'natural talent'. A person who puts time and effort into learning to draw will surly surpass the 'naturally talented' person who does not work on improving their skills
As an art student, unfortunately I was trained by teachers who subscribed to the prevailing theory of the day that actually forbid showing students how to draw or allowing copying of good art because of the fear that students creativity would be hindered. Over the years I have constantly sought the teacher or the method that would give me the key to drawing. Luckily through much searching I found the time tested and proven methodology and techniques of the old masters. I would like to teach these same proven principles to you.
Don't worry if you feel you are "too old" to learn how to draw. Don't let your age hold you back! There is no time limit to learning how to draw. As long as you can hold pencil to paper and have the manual dexterity to write your own name, you can learn to draw!
